In 1981, "What's New In Baltimore?" was performed as an instrumental. In 1982, it acquired lyrics--the title phrase plus interjections by FZ.
In rehearsal, these interjections were all Smothersisms (cf. "Dong Work For Yuda").
In May, the song was performed with one verse containing two interjections. In June, a second verse (with two more interjections) was added after the guitar solo.
